Et respondens rex dicet illis

25:40. And the king answering shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.

Wow, Mark. How incredibly poignant. Are you the artist? Fine work and thanks.

Hope just keeps popping up. Even as discouraging as things seem, I just can’t lose the thought that sanctity of life wins. The responsibility of taking another’s life cannot be escaped in the end, and as the “end” draws near, the awful burden of responsibility grows more heavy. This may be why we are seeing retired military officers stepping up in protest against the Administration. They’ve seen the bloodshed, and it is a horrible thing on the conscience. The impulse to survive contains the seed of healing, the first ray of tomorrow’s sunrise.
It’s been a pleasure to meet fellow travelers. A heartfelt thanks to the many bodhi satvas out there for doing your part. It all matters in the biggest way.

Well done, Mark. Here’s hoping that you and yours have a truly peaceful Easter.

Christ Gor I saw you’d posted this over at gorillasguides yesterday and haven’t been able to bring myself to comment until today. Didn’t get much sleep either. This is identical to what you and me saw in Lebanon.
Thanks.

This made me cry, and if it took you 8 hours to do this in between the tears [prounouce that both ways] then your work is holy.
from fdl: We who perceive things early and who suffer are the forward scouts that will warn and protect others in the coming troubles. [plural to resonate w the Irish experience]
It is very painful to feel things before other people do, and I have the psychiatric bills to prove it. But WE are the ones who will sound the alarm, to observe that our beloved country is beginning to sink into quicksand. There IS time to save our nation. We must not lose heart forever–I lose heart every day–but it is necessary to dig deep for courage and carry on. If you have children, do it for them. If you have nieces and nephews or neighbor children, do it for them. Even if something terrible happens, they will need us to help them understand what happened, and how to go on from there.
Even if you think we are completely screwed, hang on out of love for the young ones. We know what is happening and they don’t.

Off topic:
Gor have you seen the stories about the attempt to murder Nasrallah? Looks like your predictions about Iraq overflowing are happening bang on schedule. I just want to get sick.
On topic: Stunning posting

Normally I would be sending Easter greetings but at this time I am feeling little joy. I was watching some of Fox channel yesterday and am beyond shocked - the drum beats of war with Iran were deafening. Like some others here I was tossing and turning all night. I just wanted to say may superior powers watch over Du and his fellow peacekeepers and keep them safe. The picture of the grieving Dad should be front page news here on every paper. Let’s just pray that saner heads prevail.
Comment by grania — April 16, 2006 @ 4:40 pm
Anto yeah I’ve seen them. It wouldn’t surprise me if someone were to try the same on Fadlallah.
Deco agreed. BTW did you notice that Mubarak is trying to row back on his comments about the “disloyal” Shia? Abbs Kadhim has a good posting on this. (For those of you who don’t know of him Abbas Kadhim is an Iraqi Shi’ite philosopher he researches and teaches at Berkely. He was one of those who rose against Saddam and was left to his fate by Bush41. He was captured released warned he would be killed and fled. Usuual stroy got over the border imprisoned and tortured. The internationlal resue committee sponsored him to the US and he funded his studies in time honoured Amercian style by working his ass off doing God-awful jobs that nobody else would touch.
I strongly recommend browsing his blog and reading his articles I have immense respect for him both as a scholar and more particularly as a fine human being.
Richard. Thank you.
Grania I know how you feel.

trivial but … CNN just now reporting on their Sunday viewer question - they normally select a “balanced” group of responses. Tonight’s question was “Should Donald Rumsfeld Resign?” and before playing the selected answers they noted that for the first time in 3 years, all the responses were on one side … we then heard a series of very american voices, many of them sounding older than me (and that’s old) saying he should - and several suggesting he should be run out of town … very “conservative” sounding voices clearly enraged and clear that “he’s done enough harm”
now if only we could figure out how to have the government represent the american people …

I’m ramping up the anti-spam everyone will now have use the anti-spam “captcha” by entering a code after posting sorry folks but this is becoming ridiculuous. Also because of timezones some obnoxious comments may stay up for a few hours as happened lastnight.
