Pretty much - I'm coming more and more to fear that the longer the occupying armies stay there the more inevitable - and the worse a civil war will be.

At present I think there's a chance that civil war could be avoided but it's contingent upon a pretty rapid withdrawal.

So we've really done a good job in Iraq - obliterated the infrastructure, brought even more poverty and despair to its citizens and caused a civil war. To borrow a quote from Declan - it's time to eff off home now!

You noticed :-) Take these stories with several grains of salt. They're not always accurately sourced.

The US State Dept. in particular doesn't like them - and they have been known to do - well to do exactly as embedded journalists do day in day out - parrot whatever the spokesman says. That being said if you dig a bit you often find that what they say is true. I'd give a lot of credence to the factual aspects of the report of Abd ar-Razzaq's body being found for example.

But you've spotted what I'm trying to do - point out that this is what is very widely read and believed throughout the region.
